Drug Desensitization
Drug Desensitization is used when a patient is allergic to a specific medication, but they actually need to take that same medication for treatment of a medical condition. During the desensitization process you are gradually exposed to small does of the medication in clinic until the therapeutic dose is tolerated by your body.
Skin Testing
Skin testing is a quick and safe way to figure out what allergies you have. The test is relatively painless. If you are allergic to a substance used in the test, you will experience a tiny amount of swelling (like a mosquito bite) on your skin. The results are ready to be interpreted in 20 minutes.
Allergy Shots
Allergy shots are currently the only available treatment that can provide a long-lasting benefit against allergies, even after the treatment is stopped. These shots can reduce the underlying allergic response of your immune system to allergens.
Asthma Treatment
The goal of Asthma Treatment is to control the disease so that you can continue your activities without any limitations as well as to reverse and even prevent complications of asthma. An asthma action plan gives guidance on taking your medicines properly, avoiding asthma triggers, tracking your level of asthma control, responding to worsening symptoms, and seeking emergency care when needed.
Medication Management
Medical Management is your doctor’s way of monitoring your treatment. Your doctor will work with you to keep track of all the medications you are taking. This includes medication for allergies and asthma; but also vitamins, herbal supplements, and drugs for other medication conditions. The goal of medical management is to avoid any potentially negative interactions between medications.
Anti-IgE Therapy
IgE stands for “Immunoglobulin E” — a type of antibody produced by your body that contributes to underlying allergic disease, including asthma. Anti-IgE treatment may be used to limit the amount of IgE by your body if your other medications are not doing enough to control your asthma or allergies. Anti-IgE treatment is given by routine injections and is available by prescription and can be administered in our allergy clinic.
Graded Challenge
In some cases, normal skin testing is not enough to rule out a food or drug allergy completely. Graded challenge is a procedure in which you are given a small test dose in clinic, and then slightly larger doses over time to definitively rule out food and drug allergy.
Immune System Evaluation
Often times, frequent bacterial, fungal and/or viral infections can be a sign of an immune system dysfunction. In our clinic we can help address questions you may have regarding your immune system as well as perform blood testing to evaluate the strength and function of the immune system.
Spirometry
Spirometry is a test to evaluate how well you can move air in and out of your lungs. The test is painless. You will be asked to blow into a tube that measures the maximum speed and amount of air that you can blow out of your lungs when you exhale (breathe out).
Patch testing
Patch testing is a safe way to figure out what allergies you have. The test is relatively painless. If you are allergic to a substance used in the test, you will experience a small amount of irritation. Your allergist will place a patch on your arm or back for 48 hours. Then, you return to the doctor’s office so they can interpret the results.
